The Dayton Foundation said Thursday it has made The Chronicle of Philanthropy's Philanthropy 400 list of organizations with the highest levels of private support received in 2010.

The Chronicle each year ranks the nation's top 400 nonprofits of the approximately 1.5 million not-for-profit organizations of all types in the country, based upon new contributions.

The Dayton Foundation ranked 279th out of the top 400 charities of all types in the United States in terms of 2010 contributions.

The Dayton Foundation ranked higher than such organizations as the Wildlife Conservation Society, the American Museum of Natural History, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Foundation for the National Institutes of Health.

This is the eighth year in the last 10 that The Dayton Foundation has made this list. Only one other year, in 2003, did The Dayton Foundation rank this high.
